Intervista al Dott. Andrea Cecchi
English Version
HOW WAS THIS MEETING IN SOUTH KOREA, ARE THERE ANY NEWS IN THE AK WORLD AND WHAT WERE THE SUBJECTS DISCUSSED?
The AK world yearly convention was definitely a weekend of personal growth. The biggest growth regarded awareness. There were some very interesting presentations and some that did not really follow the AK method. In order to utilize AK in its most valid application, it is necessary to locate an indicator muscle “interested” in the symptom/problem/function that one wants to evaluate. If this is not found or worse, if it is not looked for, then we cannot say that we are really performing an AK evaluation. Even worse, we fall into the possibility of losing one of the most valuable AK advantages: giving the patient exactly what he/she needs based on an individual evaluation and not the application of a protocol which may be valid in most cases but not necessarily for that patient at that moment. The awareness I was referring to is the fact that, in Italy we are doing an excellent job as far as giving a valid and complete preparation to our members. In our courses we include both structural and chemical/metabolic aspects of health. The Seoul’s presentations covered both structural and chemical/metabolic issues. They ranged from the importance of the feet in the core stability to the evaluation of viral problems.
HOW WAS YOUR EXAMINER EXPERIENCE?
The examiner experience was an opportunity for growth and reflection. The growth was mostly the awareness of how important is teaching the “method” more than teaching various protocols. I saw many protocols and very little AK method. The method must begin with a valid indicator otherwise we are just applying a protocol. The reflection was mostly on the importance of performing a valid manual muscle test that can aid us in reaching a correct diagnosis. Unfortunately, in this examination session, the vast majority of candidates was not remotely capable of performing a valid AK manual muscle test. The exam is very taxing and extremely selective. It was tiring but very pleasing being able to contribute to the formation of the future DIBAK.
HOW IS APPLIED KINESIOLOGY PERCEVEID IN OTHER COUNTRIES?
It is difficult to answer such a question having spent only three days in this country. My impression is that it is considered a valid and important discipline even though, having seen the performances of the candidates, it is not well understood in all of its facets and potential.
WHAT CAN WE TAKE HOME IN ITALY AND EUROPE FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?
The most important take home message is the paramount importance of achieving the capacity to perform a valid AK manual muscle test. The PAK (Professional Applied Kinesiology) examination is the first test on the path of the AK practitioner in becoming proficient utilizing AK in his/her daily work. In Italy we have worked very hard in creating a valid and viable program that will bring the practitioner to becoming PAK certified and we expect many health care practitioner becoming certified in the years to come.
